Water cooled speed contollers
« on: January 27, 2015, 08:29:46 am »

Hello out there.
I have a Fusion Aquapower Speed Controller. It is water cooled. The unit has 2 ports on it, to attach 2 small hoses, I presume one for water in, and one for water out, to go outside the boat into the water.
My question is; how does the water get sucked in to the unit. It can't be by syphon as the unit will be above the water line when installed in my boat. Is there a 'micro pump' in the unit to draw the water in?The instructions do not tell me.
Also I have been told I do not need to bother with this aspect of the Unit as it will never get too hot. To be on the safe side I think I would like to know how to use the water cooling aspect of it.
I look forward to your informed advice as per usual.
Many thanks
Duncan

There is typically a venturi tube below the transom of the boat, or
attached to the rudder, or behind the propeller. The tube will catch water
from the forward movement of the boat, or the thrust of the propeller and
that water will flow through the tube, cool the ESC, or Motor, and then drain overboard.

Forced induction, the movement of the boat forces water up through the system. It can be further optimised by having an exit under water which as umi said create a Venturi effect sucking the water through the system.

 %%  A pictures better than a thousand words . . . .

Directly between the rudder & prop is the best place , specially the plastic pickups  , it'll need to be sturdily mounted or weeds / plastic bags will do allsorts of damage when it gets tangled up, the forward motion mounted ones on the hull only trickle thru (unless your LEGGING it  :-)) ) otherwise it'll need a pump of some sort , a side discharge above the water looks impressive to the kids.
