WOW, that's cheap for what it is!! :o :o :o  Go to your local engineering shop & ask them to make one of these, I reckon they would put a 1 in front of that price....

Looks like it would be a big boat to take two of them. Any idea of scale?

Looks great - (and large) but also missing the reversing bucket.

Shannon class has twin Hamilton Jet HJ364: http://www.hamiltonjet.com/pages/hj364.html Diameter of the impeller is 360mm. So the scale for 53mm impeller would be about 1:7.....

Graupner do a similar sized one for £150, cast unit with proper impeller. However one of these will put a 1.5 meter boat over 30mph with a zenoah so two would be mental!

The Shannon Plans are still not available on the RNLI website. Anyone know what's happening with them or when they may be released?

Since i posted this, the RNLI Online Shop has been updated (see link below). You can now see JPGs of the 3 Plans that will be available. These are an External GA, Internal DA and a Docking Plan. £20 per sheet. Still not available to buy, but at least there is some movement. Maybe someone from HQ is lurking on Mayhem!

I was speaking to our station mechanic and the  station's LOM as they want me to build one when ours comes to station later this year or early next..........the story they got from Poole when asking for plans for the boat was that ( believe it or not) the Shannon is STILL undergoing development with slight changes going on constantly to get her absolutely right, and until the final "version" is built with no more need for updates to those already on station, they will not release plans of a half finished boat (as the contact said) to the public. The guy that my two friends talked to made the point that they made that mistake with the FAB 3 and 4, where the upper flying bridge's were both changed before the operational ones were produced, and they got a slating for that mistake. {:-{ :-))

Still not enough details/sections to scratch build a hull if they are the only drawings they are going to release.

There is a new GA Drawing added today, which includes 2 more sections, which should make hull construction a bit easier.

Neil,
If this guy, that's got the Sannon on Shapeways, has any brains, he would have drawn the lifeboat full size, ie 1:1.
That way he can scale it any size for printing.
It's how I do all my boats, except my "footies". They are full size as well but only 12" long.
As to accuracy, your guess is as good as mine, especially given the lack of official plans.
Anything larger than he has "offered" it on shapeways, would make for a very expensive product.
cheers
 :-))

ps
then he may have access to the real thing and taken the lines hinself, doesn't take long, as I've done this on a few historical boats myself, for which plans are not available, or are of questionable accuracy.

Size is given a little further down the page..................it's just over 1.3/4" beam and 5" long. Anyone suggest a suitable waterjet?  :embarrassed:

DM, did notice the size, and what I said above still applies.
When I had my little 3D printer, I could scale down to any size from the 1:1 file, to suit the print envelope of the printer.
That 5" size of his, I could do in one hit, anything larger I just sliced it up, printed and glued together after.

It was actually NH-P's leg which was the target of my pulling. I wouldn't dream of having a pop at you, sir. As I write, the word "kiwi" strikes dread into the heart of every English cricket follower (I hesitate to use the word "fan").
Having read the article by Glynn Guest in the latest MB and seen the plan which features a really rock-bottom-budget waterjet (£11), I wondered about a small "sort-of-scale" Shannon with two of those in it? I guess it would want to be around 30" long - about 1/20 scale?

No worries DM, and rest easy as I'm not a cricket fan, in AU where I spent more than 20 years, to stand out in 35 to 40 degree heat all day, borders on insanity. Even when growing up in NZ couldn't really see the sense in it.
However, during my time living in London, Sundays was ALWAYS spent out in the villages watching the cricket on the village greens, while sipping a half a pint of real ale. Summers where magic, and that's cricket, the gentlemans game.
Anyway, Must get me a postal address, and subscribe to MB again.
And a 20th scale twin jet Shannon, wow, and affordable, come on NH-P, we need a 30" Shannon hull please.

You can obtain a digital subscription. I think it's cheaper but you don't get the free plans and many folk prefer hard-copy so they can browse it while the Senior Domestic Manager watches some insufferable soap on TV.
Come on, NH-P - where's that hull?  8)

DM, I'm an oldie, well sort of, and I much prefer to hold my magazine in my hand, as well I want the plans.
Now Neil, there's an idea, a r/c pop-pop scale shannon at around 5", cool. With working radar, and all the accessories
Just need my workshop now.
cheers
