Revell Flower class corvette.
« on: July 23, 2007, 04:03:41 pm »

Hi all, has anybody out there converted one of these kits recently ?? I'm getting togeather required parts for conversion, as I'm getting close to completion with my U boat, & I was wondering what would be the best type of motor to fit. I have a couple of Graupner speed 400's, but I'm not sure if one of these would be powerful enough.
Any help as always greatly appreciated. Cheers Dan

Depending on the type, probably more than enough unless you want it to try to plane.  A 5 pole 385 rated for 15 volts but run on between 6 and 8 cells will be plenty.  Direct drive to a three blad prop about 35mm, which is not critical, buit is the size as supplied, and available from most model shops.  Just dont gunge the prop shaft tube with heavy grease.
If you use "D" size cells, you won't need as much ballest.

Hi Dan,
I've completed one just last week. I'm useing a surplus 9 volt motor, running on 6 volts on p40 prop. It draws under 1 amp and if I open the throttle goes much too fast.
I put 200gms of lead in the bow before putting the deck on, and have a little more balast midships to bring it to the waterline. Access is only through the rear casing so I built in a tunnel forward of the motor to take the batteries, this makes it stable and keeps the c g down. Have fun, they look great on the water.

Hi Dan,

Mine used a mabuchi 385 motor and 7.2v racing packs, good scale speed and a little to spare. I found an alloy prop the same size and pitch as the kit one.

Hi thanks all, I've got a prop & shaft from SHG, & I'm going to run it off a 6V lead acid batt, as these last an age, & also act as ballast. Thanks for the motor tips gives me something to go on. Regards Dan.
