Making a crust...
« on: May 29, 2015, 03:17:58 pm »

Now, here's a question for all you clever blokes. I want to make a 1/12th scale slice of bread for George to feed the two hungry gutted seagulls with...everything I come up with just doesn't look right.
I've tried a piece of tissue paper, folded over and covered in cyano...no. I tried a piece of white foam with the edges painted brown to represent the crust...close, but no cigar. I tried a piece of a sticking plaster from a first aid kit...no.

Any ideas chaps?

Try baking one or get the little loaves that Hovis do, like the ones you get with your soup. Nemesis

What he said!  Milliput, moulded and painted (it does come in white).  but let's not forget that feeding bread to wild birds can be harmful!  O0 O0 O0 {-)

Thanks guys, some interesting ideas there...I like the real thing idea, Dave, that may be a possibility.

Pic shows attempt number 4...a piece of white foam, edges painted light brown to represent the crust, and a George sized mouthful taken out.

Fimo clay, or some of the bead clays will work.
I had a friend do an entire Thanksgiving dinner, including a salad and dressing, using Fimo, or
Super Sculpy clay. It is a low temperature baking clay that will harden at about 250° in the oven.
Roll some white, press some beige or brown, wrap the brown around the white, shape like bread, slice and then bake.

George is without fish...I may make him a fishing rod though, to occupy him during those times of non pushing.
