Trunnels (Tree Nails)
« on: June 03, 2015, 12:26:08 pm »

The supplier that I mentioned to Derek of 1.5 mm diam Boxwood tree nails was Floataboat in Ringwood Victoria Australia I haven,t seen the nails myself but I hear that they are 7mm long and measure 2.2mm at the head apparently $7.00 a pack of 50.

I have also found a draw plate with multiple diameters from the States made by Byrnes Model Machines, I bought one of their 4" saws and am very happy with it's quality.

For tree nails of 1.5-2mm, you could use common toothpicks. Much cheaper.
I have a dowel making plate, and it was not cheap.

Hi,

I agree with tigertiger.

Toothpicks are much cheaper and have more uses than just trunnels.

Three of my friends, that build tall ships have the Byrnes table saw and other equipment.
I opted for the micro mark/proxxon version. However I do have the draw plate.
It was integral when I made up the fittings and railings for a display barge using Koa wood.
