An Octogenarian's first step into steam!
« on: June 07, 2015, 10:54:33 pm »

 GENTLEMEN.
As I have received so much advice and help from members I thought I would show some pictures of what I have "achieved" so far. My skills now are not what they were but my patience never  wanes ! The following pictures show the progress . I started by purchasing a mahogany hull off eBay with a MAC Steam boiler. The hull was bare of ribs and superstructure.
The hull was epoxied and painted (see thread topic GRP and EPOXY Feb 2015)and eventually made water proof! Added mahogany ribs and a beach ply superstructure which was planked with mahogany strips  later epoxied varnished and polished. The steam unit being the Mac Boiler a Avon twin engine and all necessary ancillaries. My most difficult task was the silver soldering which even after many views on line via Y tube was not easily mastered possible due to my eyes and fingers not being as able now !! However eventually succeeded with practice and suppliers did well in supplying me 1/8th brass nipples !!!!
Everything seems ok running on air and I anticipate steaming her up in two or three weeks. The radio control was the easy part as I have done this on so many models. The RC works the rudder throttle whistle and water pump. I've copied a few ideas from other models on here which I trust is ok.
I'm quite happy with it now not perfect by any means but will do for me but will be making a canopy soon,
Cheers

That looks really nice Ian :-))  She should look great on the water and I look forward to seeing some photos of her in action.

Now that is a beautiful thing.

Looking forward to seeing her in action on the water. Which is your local pond?
