Balne Moor MBC's annual tug towing weekend will be held on 20/21 June.

Come along on either or both days and have a go. You'll get the chance to work with an experienced "tugger" to learn from them how to tow a vessel through the harbours at Balne Moor. (£4 per boat per day or £6 for the weekend).

On Sunday there will be a fun style competition where you'll find out what you've learned.

Mobile Marine Models will have a sales stand at this event.

As usual hot sandwiches, drinks and cakes will be available.

hi mike I/we will be there got to be the best weekend for the model tug tower 2 days none stop towing and at the best water in the country

I think I will come along and have a go, but I've not got a tug, would it be possible to lone one for the day or w/end ?
If I like it or I can get the hang of it I may join the club.

Lovely to meet up with the usual suspects today . As the weather got better in the afternoon , my reply to mrs turbo that I'd only be an hour turned into four !! Nice to meet the guys from York and the chap from Warwick with the big TID .

It is not often my tug is dwarfed that way. Steve's big TID was certainly impressive and the large steam tug was just awesome.

I know Poll was busy with his camera, but I'll also post some photos later.

We will do it all again today

Hi Jason,

Sorry I've had a look through my photos and can find no more showing Steve's TID.

Poll also was taking photos so he might have some.

What I can tell you is that it is all scratch built to a scale of 1/18.

Steve does look on here so might have more to say himself.

Sad! couldn't make it due to it clashing with the Woodvale weekend (our Local Southport two day event). Definitely going to visit Balne moor probably August.

Hi Poll....some great images and good fun by your members

An interesting scenario I see was with the big steam tug

1. have heard of preheating the boiler to save gas, however in OZ being warmer [weather] this is usually limited to using hot water to fill the boiler...is that the external gas burner external mounting ring of the boiler that is glowing ? courtesy of the external gas bottle flame?
2. the other image had me wondering.......is the gas tank as used being externally re-pressurised with the foot pump

....or does it add air to improve the combustion?

....
3. but at least the FIRE extinguisher is handy.

Would be most interested in understanding these processes a little more....Derek

Great photos makes me realise what I am missing! I'll have to try and persuade the organisers of Woodvale to make sure that the dates don't clash next year. I am definitely coming over for a visit this year but need to buy some L plates first. Keep the pic's coming.

Hi Derek. Thanks for the interest in both big tugs, sorry I'm not the guy to answer your question about the steam tug not been into
steam but I would think someone out there could answer it. has for the grey tug the owner made his own smoke unit, yes it's battery
powered, hope this helps.

HI John looks like you had a good weekend. Hopefully next season will be able to attend and have go at T/T.The large Tid should be at Kirklees Open Day and hopefully will be able to get some pictures of the internals see you guys on the 12 July take care thank you for the pictures.
