MCCR Yearly Event - June 14th 2015
« on: June 21, 2015, 08:04:15 pm »

Hi everyone,

Last sunday we had our yearly event  at our pond. Nothing fancy just sailing together with other clubs from around and independent modelers.

Here's some footage shot from my Springer with a stabilized Gopro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLjRatkd-Zs

We also have some pictures on our web site:

I now have to take care of all the footage of our steam-only event back in May ....

Bye !

Just sat and watched the entire thing - a really fantastic video.

May I ask what type of stabilisation mount you used for the GoPro? I've been looking for one to fit to models but everything I've seen is a bit too big to fit without worrying about adding weight up top.

Also, do you happen to have any more photos of the vessel "Jupiter" shown in the video? I love the details.

I'm using a Tarot T-2D 2-axis brushless gimbal which is essentially designed for drones. I take the original wheelhouse off and install the whole camera system instead: brushless gimbal, 3S/2200mah LiPo, 5V BEC and dedicated receiver (although I rarely tilt the camera).

Here are details on the rig: http://rc.noalia.fr/boats/sequana/log20150403

Looks like this once completed:

There are smaller stabilization systems but it will always more or less turn your boat into a "video rig" (ie: can't expected to keep scale appearance).

But I'm happy with the whole setup. In the video above you can see how well it works at 3'47. My springer was rocking just like the other boats but camera stays level.

Alain - the Jupiter's owner and builder - has uploaded pictures over the years on the MCCR website:

You'll find her among pictures from other boats at various events.
