Right, let get ourselves organised......

After the "slight discussion" on the forum over the last week, lets get the 'How To' section organised.

I need a suggest list on sections to include.
The list needs to be concise as possible to make it easy to navigate.
Your suggestions please.....

We thinking of members submitting 'articles' by email or PM to me ( and yet to be volunteered moderators ) so we can set up the topic for you and lock it down. Comments can be offered in an adjacent topic so as not to distract from the original posting. I've yet to work the details of this out but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Also, please point out any other good "how to" articles already on here on the forum ( eg. Bluebirds electronics) so we can start moving them around..... just to confuse you!

We can also ask for articles if you would like something specific, you never know some kind hearted member may oblige!

I think the first step is to try and identify what is already posted on the Forum and catalogue it - a bit of housekeeping so to speak. And no, I'm afraid I don't have the time myself!

Hello Martin and John,

There is such a diversity of model boating on here that you could include subjects across the whole range. Organise it into four main topics ie Scale, Sail, Power boats and Submarines. Then subdivide if required.

Just for starters you could include setting yacht sails for optimum performance, setting up and tuning different types of I C engines, there have been some good suggestions this year on reproducing hull plating on warships (John

), I personally would like something on hull construction as I am about to tackle bread and butter construction for the first time. Advice on fibreglass has been discussed a few times and would make a good how to.

And for sailing/operating how about a guide to tug towing and regatta course sailing in terms of rules and techniques. It is something that appeals to me but I wouldn't want to just turn up and have a go without first knowing a a bit about it so I didn't make a fool of myself

on a serious note, the how - to section could be sub divided, here's my idea
Electronics - (radio set up eswc set up etc)
Materials (wood plastic metal etc, how to bond things, deal with *COUGH* ups and how to prepare surfaces for things like painting
Sail (anything to do with yachts and sail powered craft - such as how to set the craft up and sail the craft)
Steam (anything to do with vessels that heat water up in a boiler to produce motive energy)
IC (anything to do with petrol and internal combustion engines, those zippy buzzy things that go bloody fast)
