hello everybody
« on: August 04, 2015, 10:55:29 pm »

Just joined the forum and have already seen things of interest and help. I used to be a control line and free flight aeromodeller years ago but came to have a growing interest in boats about a year ago when I realised that my 6 year old grandson would be too rough on delicate airframes... so boats were the option. I have scratch built a 32 inch freestyle warship with 2 channel control which sails well and went down well with grandson and granddaughter, although its about 6mm shorter now than it was after our first outing.....
So I have established an interest and gained a bit of experience, but where do I go for a next model? Glynn Guest seems a good place to look for a second plan project. Any thoughts on what would be OK as a semi scale 2 channel job through autumn and winter?

Glens plans are very good for a beginner as are springer tugs. Search on here there are plans for the hull but the upper works are open to your own ideas. Ps springer tugs are pretty much kid proof.

Agree, Glynn`s designs are good but for a bullet-proof (young person) boat , go for the Springer.  Find an old drawer or similar for the sides and raid the aero-supplies scrap box for 1/16 or 3/32 ply for the bottom.  An some suitable personal or local theme for the upperworks and you will be the bestest Grampa in the world  O0 O0 O0 O0 O0

Back in the seventies there was a BBC tv series called Modellers World, or something like that. Bob Symes was the presenter. They had a plan that came with the accompanying book of a Leander class Frigate, our family made a few, I think dad still has one. I can recommend that plan if it can be found.

Thanks guys, I'll have a look round. Meanwhile I have seen the Twinkler plan in the Vic Smeed Model Boats special edition, which looks the part. Plan drawn up, balsa bought, ready to go.
