Two hobbies combined...
« on: September 23, 2015, 01:08:40 pm »

If this works, it should look good at an upcoming club indoor meet..

I have a Tamiya 1/14th scale Scania truck, a five axle lowloader trailer, and the X craft (which is approx 1/15th scale)

The idea is to load the X craft onto the trailer and drive it into the hall, then deliver it to my display table, along the same lines as when X24 was delivered to the Sub Museum at Gosport.

Well, you've got my attention Richard.     :-))

I have yet to find a model boat suitable for the job myself.  Unfortunately, you don't show a piccie of the X craft in relation to the trailer.  Are you going to have nice straps around it  ?

Cheers

OK, but how are you going to get the sub off the low loader on to the display table? Sounds like a crane shunt to me.

Ken, I'll get a couple of photos later on...the trailer won't be here until next week, but I can put the X craft alongside the truck for you.

X9 is 44" long, the trailer bed measures 40" (I'll probably remove the ramps, they won't be needed) then there's the front section which gives another few inches to accommodate the bow section. The boat will sit in a pair of 'V' shaped supports, and yes...it will be held down with some scale straps.

As for lifting X9 off the trailer...well, for now, it will be a pair of hands, but I do know a chap in the truck club I belong to who has a huge crane. If I remove the dive module from the boat, it will weigh around 2.5lbs, so it should be liftable.

you lucky dog.

I have been collecting things for the last few years...  I want to try to build something like this photo with my 1/8th scale Alvin.  it will be a little larger than your 1/15th scale efforts, and it will take a while longer for me to find/get/build all the parts i need.
