Question - have had a search through but unable to find an answer to this one, so here goes:

Lettering for ships names, has anyone ever tried using one of those brother label printers. You can get clear label film and black or white lettering. Has it been done, does it work, does it need a coat of satin varnish ?????

I await with anticipation any useful input...........

  I have always used Barry's model lettering,cheap and easy to use just give them a ring and tell what you want and in a couple of days you have the names for your boats,all my boats names are made by them good quality and hard wearing,and no I don't anything to do with them just a happy customer......Ray.

Unless you have a fleet to label then it is an expensive way of doing it.
Different scales and different fonts Costa lotta.
Barry's Modelling Lettering is the way most of us go.

I use Barry's and BEC lettery and deck hull markings  and also I make my own using Crafty Computer Paper .

Also if I can't get the colour of lettering I want I spray to the colour I want

I now print my own on decal paper. But in the past you can get rub on lettering, it used to be called Letraset, but there are plenty of generic variants, WHSmith have their own. But with the advent of computers and home printing they are very few sizes and colours nowadays, usually black or red.

depending on the size/colour of the lettering I can do them for you in automotive grade vinyl

I can vouch for E2V, he has done some superb lettering for me (check out the POSH on my posh venture) when barrys model lettering turned me down flat saying it couldn't be done.

Those were easy.
There is a size limit tho.... I tried to do some for Dave M (inertia) but they didn't come out so well, but then they involved some quite intricate lettering at about 6mm High

If you want the 3D warship nameplates, use the Plastruct styrene letters, mount them on a piece of plasticard with a frame if required, then push the master board into some plasticene with a bit of silicone spray as a release agent and mould as many as you want with a bit of resin mixed with talc. The letters go down to about 3mm high,

Hi Guys not sure if this what are looking for. Ships name done using Slater's letters. Paint them first then fit them on to Tamiya masking tape then super glue to model. Hope this helps.
