Pond etiquette

The Lady Wife and I play with sail our boats on the local pond (which apparently measures about 40 x 20 metres so is a good size but not huge), and so far there's never been anybody else there when we are.  But there will be, so we were wondering what the etiquette is.

If we turn up with our little Springers and there's somebody there with a 4ft long model of the Hood cruising majestically about, say, or with a little hydroplane whizzing all over the place at a scale Mach 1, what's the form?  Do we say "Mind if we play sail too?" and offer to stick to one end, or what?

Also, what's the collision-avoidance rules?  When approaching head on turn right?  And what else? 

 :embarrassed: We really haven't a clue ...

Just talk to them. No rules other than common sense. If they put a fast boat get off the lake just in case.

Also check frequencies in use if not using 2.4 Ghz equipment

We're both on 2.4Ghz, so am I correct in believing that we're no threat to users of lower frequencies nor they to us?

What's been said already.
On a pond that size you won't get the fast electric boys,
more likely little rtr Chinese junk which will run out of amps
and need rescuing by your sturdy Springers. :-))
You will find yourself quite popular.

I get bored with motor craft and normally sail yachts.
My Springer is in the boot if anyone needs a helping hand.
Satisfaction is bringing someone's pride and joy back
undamaged and intact.

Norman, as far as 'our' local pond is concerned, you will not have any problems as it is so little used - as I think you have discovered. I was there this PM for half an hour or so, ballasting one of my boats and no one there as usual. PM me if you want some company any day - my new Springer is almost complete and it would be good to see at least one more on the pond. Whatever else there is on the pond, we always manage to tolerate each other without any problems, we just respect each others needs.
It doesn't get much busier than this - below!  :-))

PS. Did you know we have a local 'club'? Well, more like a bunch of old blokes just talking about model boats now and then. £5 for life membership, absolutely no formality and lots of useful free advice. Can't beat that!

I could always bring the paddler over Bob, That would make 3 boats on the water. it would be like a coming home for the old girl   :-)

Always steer port to port side and steer to stern of a ship crossing your bow.

I believe that is who she has got her sponsorship through via a Serco owned company.

 She is looking forward very much to her sea time in phase three next summer so I believe.
