Model sailing hydrofoils
« on: December 07, 2015, 01:32:17 pm »

I fancy the idea of building a model sailing hydrofoil, I've seen them on utube videos but I can't find anything about building one. Anyone have any knowledge or can point me in the direction of plans or info that would help me build one, thanks.

They do look great fun.
I think I know where you might get a couple of full sized powered ones cheap.  ;)

I think I'm going to need some big sails for those and they might be a bit big for our pond.

Thought it was the modern sail powered manic machines
you were asking about.
Don't know of any plans, but the way they sail would
not lend itself to a model as you would need ballast that could be
thrown about from one side to another and fore to aft as the real crew
perform.
There is a skiff about with a sliding crew member as ballast, but that's about it.
Tris and Cats blow over with amazing regularity in any blow, and the sail area
to lift the craft onto the fins would be huge.

Love to see one sail , would be top of my Christmas list. :-))

I still think it looks like fun, no obvious ballast and I was thinking about a helicopter microprocessor stabilising system.

There were several kits available in the past.
The most popular and was the  Gunze Sangyo Super Comet.
______

Eight years ago, when Takahashi san first launched his JSDF Missle foil I was flabbergasted.

I did my best to duplicate it, but failed on power and lift.
Takahashi san's first foils did great straight runs, but over the years each new Jet Foil has
increased in agility and and now stability and maneuverablity is a staple of each new launch.

As for my hydrofoils, I stepped away from the Sparverio, and may build up a PT-50.Or one of the old Russian, like the Kometa, Meteor, or one of the Connexion, Voskhod. :-))

Is this about powered hydrofoils or sail powered foilers, which do exist - http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2434531- in both monohull and multi hull form - http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2550229

Hi, I know it can be done with power but I want to try to do it with sails. The Australians seem to be able to do it with models reasonably well so I'd like to give it a go. I did find the Aardvark site but their model cost nearly £1K which is far too rich for a bit of fun. I've bought real dinghies for much less and had a couple of seasons and sold them off for nearly the same price.
