Hi,
I went for red first as it shouldn't be a high gloss finish as it's anti-foul.  Then I sprayed the blue as this should be nice and glossy.  I used trim tape for the waterline as t's easy but with careful masking it can be painted.  I use Euro Car Parts Triple X grey primer now on another forum member's recommendation - not cheap but good.  As far as I know the Severn class all have red anti foul whereas most slipway launched boats like the Tyne are white.

I don't know about halfords textured paint as I've used humbrol sea grey (27) having first painted on a mix of aluminium oxide powder and paint to get the texture.  As you've got the textured paint already, you could try it on some scrap grp or plastic first to see if it's what you want.  It might be worth spraying the scrap with the blue you're using in case of overspray and in case the paints aren't compatible.  If you like the texture but the colour isn't quite right, try spraying the colour you want over that, again on scrap first.

Hope that helps
Phil

Hi,
I always spray the waterline area first, this is known as reverse masking.  I used Ford Frozen white which is not a full white as that would stand out too much at this scale. You can then mask off and spray the blue, I used Humbrol 15 for this, again, this is not quite so vibrant as the other colours mentioned but looks correct for the scale. Remask the waterline again and spray the red anti foul, I used red oxide from the halfords range. this does give a matt finish but can be buffed up a little. Tamiya tape was used for all masking. Be aware that the waterline is slightly wider at the bow of a Severn boat. If you study pictures of the forward draft marks compared to the stern, this is noticeable. At 1/12th scale, the waterline is 5/16th ins thick forward and 1/4ins thick at the transom. (OK I am a rivetcounter!! )
Hope all above helps.   17-09

Rivet counter 17-09, don't know what you are talking about!!! >>:-( You think I'm joking dear reader - see the attached photos 1, 2 and 3, which were taken by 17-09 in his research of the Dover Severn - that's how he gets it right! We do a DVD of static photos of both the Dover and Newhaven Severns' detail to help model builders that do not have easy access to the boat. Get in touch with me and for £5 I'll send any reader one - all £5 goes to the RNLI at either Dover or Newhaven. So far I've raised over £550 in the last seven years, along with Trent, Mersey, Solent, Arun and now Shannon Clas ones too.
Back to 17-09, because he is a modest man, I snuck into his workshop and stole this shot [photo 4] of his 1/12th scale Severn [which I have posted on other threads to show what can be achieved] - he's right, that slightly off white is just right, especially the more smaller scales. Hope it helps and inspires.

You can soon make that total over £555, I'll send a PM in a moment.  :-)

I've just placed an order with Adrian for a Speedline Severn kit in 1/12th scale and can't wait to get a look at it. Will be building the Newhaven boat as well so a DVD of images will be great.

Check out Lesfac's and Craggle's threads just below yours, they are working together doing the same part but in 1/12th.
They have posted good photo's which show the specific part you are asking about, Craggle in particular has posted the
relevant picture of the ram brackets.
 good luck

Gents,
You might be right about the 1/12th only - which I have for the Speedline Trent - and lots of parts and components are generic on different lifeboat classes. Here are some shots that might help. If they are there you need the little romboid / trapesium shaped ones shown, that have four faces and three holes drilled in one. These are then bent / folded into your 'V' formation and soldered. I would have thought Adrian had included them, as he might have been able to 'copy and paste' from the 1/12th scale - unless deemed too small and fiddly.
You will see from the transom shot of my Trent with working trim tabs [planes] - now finished - that I have not added them as the cable holder needs to be there. When the scale stainless braided outer sheathing is added it will hardly notice.
I have added some other shots of both the Dover Severn and Ramsgate Trent stern / transom arrangements.
Keep up the good work and hopefully build enjoyment!

Thank for the reply
I will drill out a hole just big enough for braded hose like the trent pick, at least its saved me from the headache of trying to make some.
