« on: January 26, 2016, 07:09:02 pm »

Hello,I've a models by design sf 33 kit which I hope to build with my 11 yr old son,the only problem is i've never built or know how to build one!!!.Do any members have any ideas where I should start?at the moment i've hull up on a good sturdy table and got a stand made for it.(brother in law's a carpenter luckily!).What basic/essential tools do I need?also I hope to put rc gear in and I presume I go about installing that first before deck etc?any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm just scratching my head now and don't want to ruin the kit by tearing in to it with no idea lol!!! Thanks a millon

Hi Aaron and/or Dave,

Have a read of the tutorials in the room devoted to all those techniques and myth busting, the many skilled people on the forum know lots and many have shared their skills there.

I don't know what an sf33 is and so can only look in the room closest related to the boat type you have. I also reccomend you get your son to join and see the sheer madness that model boating can create along with lots of fun and gorgeous models.

Lastly, show him the Youtube videos on here of colliding ships so he can see how not to park his boat!

Welcome to the forum :-))

SF33 is a Cygnus Fishing boat.

Hello AaronDave, welcome to Mayhem......

Whether you are are a modeller or a beginner is not so important. The difference is time it takes to complete a certain procedure in the build. The more you build the more you learn, the more you learn the easier and faster it becomes. The most important thing is to believe that you ARE going to do it.

Each little step will take time and may sometimes go wrong and have to be redone but as someone very recently said to me 'it'll all be worth it'. AND IT WILL. It doesn't matter when it's not a race!

The great guys on here have done everything you are about to do and we are all here to help you through your build. SO learn how to get photos up on here and then when you are not sure of something photo it, post it and ask. Someone will help.

If you have any instructions maybe a photo of those may help and then we could run through it with you. If not then a photo of the parts that you have would be a big help....... Good luck I'll keep my eye on this thread....... U2

Welcome, you have got yourself into one of the best hobbies they is. The build will keep you indoors(no skiving or drinking) means more money for the build. Then you sail the result of your endeavours. Incidentally you have got an excellent boat for your first one. These vessels can take the rough water. Nothing more disappointing than going sailing only to find it is too rough to put your boat on the water. Good luck and Enjoy, Nemesis
