That's Neil, a member of this forum - sadly he is currently "Inactive". His contributions are greatly missed. Thanks for the link to a great article about him.

Yes...that's our Neil  ;D....

Not mentioned in the article, but he was also a Department of Education School teacher here in Canberra in the land of OZ many years ago...he will be remembering those times this coming weekend ........ as he took his students on ANZAC day memorial walks from School each year to celebrate our 25th of April remembrance day ..........

We still talk now & then  :-))

Neil is a great bloke ..... but he did have a habit of posting personal opinions with a baseball bat!

But from what I hear Martin, he was somewhat provoked on numerous occasions into doing so,and I  reckon a baseball bat is infinitely preferable to a sledge hammer.

However being away from the source of such arguments has quietened and mellowed him considerably.

Life is too short to bare grudges, as I have learned myself in my golden years and tend to let life and woes pass me by. What is the point of worrying about something that has happened before hand, when there is ABSOLUTELY nothing one can do about it anyway.

I fully agree.... but Neil did have 3 or 4 "bites at the cherry'!"

If you are in contact with Neil, ask him to email me IF he wants to rejoin the Mayhem.   :-)

I speak to him frequently Martin, as he is a great encouragement to me. In fact it was he who told me about this wonderful forum, and he told me some time back that he had tried to contact you personally but because he had been made inactive it just came back as undeliverable.

I believe he chats with one of your moderators now and then on the RCMB forum that he himself is a moderator on, but I will mention to him what you have said.

Yes we are still in contact.
As the cowboys used to say "an ornery old goat" with a heart of gold.
He knows he is missed on here.
But not only a goat but as stubborn as a herd of donkeys.
And a good friend too.
I am not posting this in "secret" I am copying it to him in the next few minutes.

Derek

I believe he met Prince Philip ( and was told off by him for not wearing a tie) and bowed to the queen whilst there in 1977, Jubilee year when they unveiled the monument to the fallen at Canberra War memorial and Museum.
I suppose nothing changes with him, always testing the boundaries!?

He got around in his young days, lol.

He simply 'left the building'. Judging from our correspondence since he does seem to have rid himself of a lot of his demons. Good fortune to the guy, but whether or not he returns here is 100% Neil's decision. I think he's happy with things the way they are.

I believe he is clearing the workshop of model boats and going to tinker with old cars and bikes for a while.

such is a shame with the talents he has!
