I think an Atlantic 85 will make a fine addition to my collection of yet to be built kits.

Hi Adrian, my vote goes to the Atlantic 85 as well, good luck. I love the way the Shannon is working out, I hope you have great sales for your efforts (irishcarguy) Mick in Canada...As if I have not had enough trouble a customer ran over our spaniel who was 12 years old right in front of the shop which is on a farm &  killed him... Now they have had to remove a cancer from my temple, the last 3 or 4 years have just been horrific, it just must get better soon, Mick in Canada....

I think I speak for all of us on here Irishcarguy, we hope and pray for your speedy recovery and hope for calmer waters to come for you and your family.

Best wishes,

Jim.

This almost sounds to good to be true....

Being involved operationally with the RNLI - I am excited that a inshore lifeboat kit could be on the horizon. I unfortunately missed out on the (somewhat flawed) Lesro 21 kit.

I agree with the others an Atlantic 85 kit would probably prove the most popular and most room for RC gear etc. but the E class would make a very interesting subject with the jets. Hovercraft would also be a great future addition. As much as I love the 'workhorse' D class, I think it maybe difficult to replicate in RC at 1/12 due to available space and not have the performance it deserves... however at 1/8 might be a different story?!

I watch with interest :-))

Firstly, Mick, I really hope all your troubles are behind you. Get well soon.
Secondly then, what next?
I like the hovercraft idea but......not for me really.
I fancy the D class but a bit too small.
The London based E class looks like a good one because its easier!

However I think were going to have a little trip into another subject  before doing the Atlantic 85.
A brown water ATC.

Changing a bit %) reckon there maybe a market for a large scale modern Dutch beam trawler (lovely lines to them) :-)). Being a bit  biased maybe being a fisherman  O0 {-)

Just in case you dont know what a brown water atc is......the secondt photo is a regular Armoured Troop Carrier (Tango Boat) somewhere on the Mekong River. The next one is a model of an ATC-H built I think by Max from Max Mouldings some time ago now. He made the UH-1 too!
Then a famous one called Irma-la-Duech. This on pumped high pressure water onto dug -out positiuons along the shore lines. It could blast away a concrete bunket!
There was anoth version called a Zippo. This was like irma but it squirted Napalm. The VC didn't like them too much and a captured Zippo crew could expect to take a long time to die. Ughhh.

Mk 1 or Mk 2?

Water jets again, but they'd be somewhat smaller than the Shannon's. We've got E-002 at Chatham that you could come and look at.

First of all thank you all for the kind messages & wishing me well but it is not quite over, there is one more cancer lesion on the left temple that I am afraid must be removed. It is no big deal ,it is just the very mention of the word cancer is very scary, thank you all again for your kind words. Mick B (irishcarguy) ( I am after all a tough old Irish guy LOL)

Hi,

Just out of curiosity is there a huge demand for this type of model ATC compared to the lifeboat scene?

Not wishing to prompt a huge debate {-)

No Rich there isn't and really its about time I considered the commercial aspect more than I do. I know there is someone out there who wants an ATC (when he's not busy with atomic particle accelerators and Quark catching tanks.
I could make two I suppose.........

Alright then, consider the Atlantic 85
It has a fundamental problem. Scale effect.
Its 7.44 meters long and weighs just 1.8 tons.
A 1/12th scale model would be just 620mm long (2ft) so quite small and to float on here waterline must weight just 2.3 pounds.
I don't think its possible to make a running scale model that size weighing that little.

A 1/6th one would be 55 inches long and would have to weigh less than 18lbs because there is so little draft. To be practical I think it would have to be a rigid inflatable boat too!
There,s a thought ??????

A two foot long ultra light GRP moulding (like the gliders) would be good but never done that before. Vacuum bagged GRP is all very new to me but it sounds the way to go though.

I need some good (and cheap) ideas to mull over for a few months..

I have heard a rumor. A German supplier is eventually preparing a MERSEY. Maybe you want to check his website  (http://www.modellbau-sievers.de) from time to time.
Please, don't blame me if it isn't true.

A Tyne please.

I would love to have a try at building a model of Fleetwood's old boat, the  RNLB William Street complete with a sound system for those engines. Wonderful.

Mind you, even an old man can have fantasies of a beautiful lady, and I don't mean Sophia Loren.

To old for that malarkey, ho ho.
