Dust and vapour face mask recommendations please
« on: June 13, 2017, 08:37:37 pm »

hi chaps, I am looking for recommendations for a dust and vapour face mask which you can :
1) wear with glasses, and
2) do not steam up said glasses in use, and
3) sensible price please - not a full face positive air flow thing ok2

I will mainly be using airbrush, ( with a small spray booth) rattle cans and of course sanding, wood and filler.

Thanks
Chris

There are lots on the market. Look for a canister design. This design give easy air flow, and you don't steam up as the exhaled breath goes downwards and/or outwards.

You need to look for one with organic vapour action. I use this one, for dust and vapor, and find it more comfortable than others I have used. If you have a big nose, like me, other masks can rest on my nose which is uncomfortable. Just make sure the canisters are for vapour, if that is what you are worried about.

It is the filter canisters that jack up the price, a lot.
I am not sure if rattle cans still use organics, but even water based paints contain nastys.
There are cheaper ones out there, including single canisters.
If you think you might use them a lot over the next few years, to save on canister replacements, get a separate mask (or canisters) for dust only, as they are cheaper. Save the expensive canisters for vapour.

If buying safety glasses, you can get extra deep ones that fit over glasses; without touching.

Go to Halfords. I wear their mask with glasses and it's fine. The filters supplied are dust only so you have to by vapour ones.

I have been using an Elipse mask bought on ebay - replacement filters though are the expensive part!

As a result of dust and bad fumes I have had to curtail a lot of my modelling as I have been troubled with
chestiness problems the last year.
Plywood dust, varnish and paint fumes, glue and resin fumes besides indoor cleaning products I try to avoid now.

Thanks for the suggestions chaps. Some food for thought.
Nordlys, I too have knackered my lungs and have to be careful of various solvents, cleaning products, even dust and pollen can all be unpleasant. Hence the need for a good filter, especially as I have just discovered the joy of an airbrush.

True, the price does fluctuate and I have seen them up to £23. Now's the time to buy!
