Best place for small nuts and bolts?
« on: March 11, 2018, 05:33:58 pm »

Hi All,

I've been struggling Today to find a place online to source some nuts, bolts, washers etc for some of the models on the workbench. I'm basically after a, not massive, amount (20-30) each of M3/M4 10mm/15mm allen bolts along with lesser quantities of M2.5 5mm and M4 15mm

Now there are some places where you can buy great deals on 100 or 200 packs of  the bolts then you have to buy the same of the washers and nuts etc. at about £6 per pack so you end up with spending £18 on the 20 10mm long M3 bolts you need and having leftovers.
Buying them in smaller packs is about £4 each for a "set with a washer, nut and bolt but then you spend £12 on 30 and although it seems like good value you'd be silly to not spend the extra £6 and get an additional 170 of them to keep for future projects.

So by the time I've filled my cart and sorted out what I need I've spent £72 and somehow got 730 superfluous little fastenings but only about 2/3rds of what I actually need.
I'm sure they'd all come in handy some day but at that price it won't come soon enough to be viable.

Help?!

Alex

Check the web and see if there's a fastening dealer near you.  Nearly everywhere has a small business that sells nut and bolts.  Usually they work out a lot cheaper than Screw-fix or similar.  The big trick is knowing what to search for.

we had new monitor stands at work, these came with a selection of 8 screws in m4 and m5 in 12mm up to 20mm, of course each monitor used 1 set of 8 bolts, the other 40 bolts were  thrown out with the packaging, 20 desks, x 40 bolts free, all went into my collection, other than that its packs of 50 for the bolts on ebay, for 5mm+ lidls do good multi sets, nuts standard, stainless and nyloc. 3mm and 4mm in the packs of 50 off each size
this was one of my suppliers - 50 for £3 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/50pcs-M4-6-30mm-Allen-Key-Bolts-Screw-Silver-Stainless-Steel-Hexagon-Head-Screws-/252941911357?var=&hash=item3ae483453d
