CHESHIRE POLICE LAUNCH
« on: April 02, 2018, 12:12:36 pm »

YES........A CHESHIRE POLICE LAUNCH. I joke you not, and it wasn't an April fools joke that I saw it on TV last night on a programme about repairing police cars after their usual dalliances with law breakers when the chaps were given the Catamaran to covert into a fully fledged Police diving support vessel.........bearing in mind that the County of Cheshire is almost landlocked other that access via the River Dee and the Manchester ship canal, the vessel looked quite good and I think would make a good and different model.

Very little was given on the actual vessel on the programme and was wondering from the shots I got from the TV whether anyone recognises the boat and where one would find a hull to build it on......the police boat itself is moored in Liverpool Marina when not on operational duty.

It has a very similar family resemblance to http://www.macduffshipdesign.com/work.htm. I haven't trawled through them all but that was my first thought.

The vessel is not owned by Cheshire Police but is part of the:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_West_Police_Underwater_Search_and_Marine_Unit

That notwithstanding, I suspect that it is still a bit of a "Jolly Boat" for the plod as it can only enter the river at high water i.e. twice a day for instance.

Sounds like an interesting program, I might have to take a look at that! Especially as the company I work for does emergency service fleet maintenance amongst the billion other things they do.

Looks quite an overelaborate solution for scooby doos. A RIB would do just as well.

***On a point of language, the use of the words 'stumped up the money' do not prove ownership, sole or otherwise; it could be leased. It merely implies it, and in today's age of journalistic and TV production hype, nothing can be taken at apparent face value.***
Point scoring will be futile and is already proving inflammatory.

It's a resource for the North West Police underwater search team. They used to have a very large RIB which they kept at Runcorn Police Station in the huge garage under the station at Runcorn shopping city. It's function will be different to that of a conventional Police patrol boat. It will carry highly trained divers and their equipment. They will be recovering things, including people and bodies. Function over form I believe the term is.

This is my friends 'what if' Cheshire Police launch.
Originally built as the Bremen 9 German police boat by Dennis Green of Crewe MBC, it was sold on to my friend and relaunched as a Cheshire boat with the pre Peter Fahey Cheshire constabulary logo.
Now undergoing night time lighting trials on my pool.
I prefer the 'what if' version than the current launch.
