'Apex Models' buyers beware !
« on: April 28, 2018, 11:20:42 am »

I would like to inform fellow Mayhemmers of a recent bitter Ebay shopping experience with 'Apex Models' of Crowthorne Berkshire -
because it's looking like another Westbourne Models sorry saga repeating itself -

To cut a long story short, I'd ran out of 'building materials' unobtainable locally and hurriedly resorted to Ebay to purchase goods.
Apex Models had the items in stock at a competitive price (modest £30) and 97.8% positive feedback ! my order was duly placed.
The usual Paypal email receipt instantly followed, but NO email dispatch details from Apex Models.

5 days later nothing arrived by post, I checked on Ebay and was suprised to see an estimated delivery date of a week - 10 days.
Tried emailing via Ebay to check if my order was ok, emailed Apex Models direct, telephoned the shop many times,
no response to any attempts to contact the supplier, this carried on for 3 weeks unresolved.

97.8% positive feedback on Ebay? What I should have checked was Apex Models negative feedback -
here are numerous instances of buyers sharing the same experience - placing an order, no seller communication, no goods delivered,
resorting to Ebay/Paypal obtaining a cash refund from Apex Models, which I have now done myself.

My question is WHY?
what are Apex Models hoping to achieve with this ongoing practice of taking orders, no communication,
not supplying goods - inevitably resulting in Ebay leaning on them to refund customers cash??
Can it be worth Apex Models going throught the hassle of banking my modest £30 for 2-3 weeks,
what are they thinking? what is their angle?? is something else going on???

How 97.8% positive feedback is derived from Ebay the mind boggles,
yes there are many happy smiling Apex customers - but there's lots not so happy !
Surely it's only a matter of time until negative feedback catches up with Apex Models.

I find it very sad modern times dictate our traditional model shops falling by the wayside,
resulting in the need to use online suppliers and 'don't get me wrong' there are exellent reliable suppliers,
we all know who they are, it just takes one bad apple etc.

Mayhemmers beware, I welcome your thoughts?

regards - an unhappy Zippy.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience.
I wouldn't rely on Ebay feedback system or Facebook reviews; personally I always google a supplier.
Never had problems with established suppliers such as Cornwallmodelboats. I may pay a little more but it's just not worth the anxiety caused when things go wrong.

It might not sound like much, but interest on your money whilst in their possession goes into their pockets.
With lots of customers it adds up. Called turnover, think Woolworths etc.
Also how many give up and don't get a refund??

Don't use paypal use bank credit card, your bank is closer and responds far quicker.

EBay is closing down its auctions and will be on-line store listing, have a look at the merchants who now sell, not auction, on eBay

Regarding companies holding money in their accounts....A customer recently wanted to completely change their order so I initiated a refund through PayPal and sent them a new invoice, expecting an almost instant transaction. Nearly three weeks have passed, the money left my account as expected but PP say it might be up to another week before customer gets it - over three weeks to complete the refund, who is kidding who? Apparently they have issued an e-cheque and this is what has caused the delay, whatever an e-cheque is! Customer going nuts and thinks i'm fobbing them off.

On Ebay you wont get protection than PayPal . They are fair and quick . used them loads of time . Yes if its an E check it does cause big delays .
Second dont know were you heard ebay are closing down auctions . Thats ant going to happen in the near future.

It would take a lot of money in an account to get any decent interest from any UK banks

Thank you Mayhemers for your replies, we think on similar lines.

I am pursuing the '97.8% positive feedback' with Ebay but don't hold much hope,
trying to contact a human being inside one of these giant corporations is a nightmare.
