Clyde Puffer Ailsa
« on: October 27, 2018, 03:26:05 pm »

I was wondering if anyone has built  the Clyde Puffer "Ailsa" a kit produced for a short while by BP Mouldings, alas no longer trading, as Peter sadly died.
Any help with the height of the deck would be appreciated.

G'day Alan,
There is a drawing, although small, of the Ailsa in the book Steam Coasters and Short Sea Traders by Charles V Waine. I have a copy, and if you get stuck, send me a PM and I'll try and send you a copy of the drawing. I had the drawing enlarged to 1:24, and although the lines became much thicker, I did get as far as copying the frames and keel. I still have a desire to build the model due to my Grandfathers involvement, but a lack of time and interest is making it hard.

My Grandfather was a leading hand boilermaker at Denny's Shipyard when the Ailsa was built in 1903, along with her sister, and this was an unusual build for Denny's, as they mainly did fast passenger vessels, and during WW1, naval vessels. I believe it was a job for a mate of management!

Orion Mouldings Is know producing the Clyde Puffer kit, he has all the fittings from BP Mouldings. The hull has always been made by Orion for BP mouldings, if you contact Orion he might be able to help.
