Vivacity Cabin Structure Missing
« on: November 04, 2018, 08:50:37 am »

At the Headcorn Model Show on 8th Sept 2018 I purchased what local modellers and I think is a Vic Smeed Vivacity but minus it's top cabin structure. If you recognise the model from the photos maybe you have the missing top? I have the plans from Sarik which say 54" but the model seems slightly smaller at 50" so, either who ever built it scaled it down a bit or it's not a Vivacity! Ideally the hull and cabin can be re-united or I'll have to build a new top. HELP! Thanks, John

John,
In December 2017, I posted the original magazine article (from August 1961 Model Maker magazine) in the Vic Smeed thread on the Model Boats website forum. Attached is a link, the article is on #22. There is also another one under construction which may help.

Thanks Tony52 for the reply - a bit more info on the Vivacity. I'm still not certain that it is a Vivacity though. Do you recognise it as such? J

I  have got a Vivacity, and I don't think yours is, the transom and the drop from the fore deck to the after deck is a lot greater. Interesting pipe on the keel  %)

John,
I would agree with Steamboat Phil in saying your model isn't a Vivacity. To add to Phil's observations, the spacing between the transom and the last bulkhead is greater on your model than on Vivacity.

Thanks for the reply which pretty much confirms I don't know what it is. The pipe is for water cooling the engine - a sort of water/water heat exchanger for an i.c. engine. Tube has connections fore and aft in to the hull forming part of a closed loop system but un-pressurised. Presumably there should be a vent pipe or header tank. All guess work as the engine is not present - probably go brushless. And thanks Tony, more confirmation. I hope someone or the previous owner, I assume somewhere in Kent with the Headcorn connection, recognises it. Thanks, J

It looks like you have an E.D. clockwork escapement in there, for the old throttle control. It's a collectable, so take care of it.
The hull shape reminds me of some of the Basette Lowke models, it might be worth checking.
