Ultrasonic Mister - amazing!
« on: May 11, 2019, 10:00:17 am »

I just bought one of these:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mini-Donut-Humidifier-Air-Purifier-Aroma-Diffuser-USB-Office-Home-Desktop-Car/163604625631?hash=item26179878df:m:moHmJXQUJDprqOxUJZb0YyA

It's a little floating doughnut that makes fog - it's amazing - it creates a stream of 'smoke' like a real steam engine - and it's really low power consumption.  It will sit in a little water tank in my boat assisted with a little fan.

Bargain!

The big problem with ultrasonic misters so far has been the relatively high voltage that they have needed.  Running on a 5 volt 500mA supply, this looks good.
The instructions at the bottom of the linked page are worth noting -
Quote
Note:

1. When first use the product, before the Absorbent Filter Sticks 100% nets put the product. (Most user say no fog when first use is because absorbent filter sticks are not all wet)

2. Check both the cotton swab and spring must be in the product and put enough water in the bottle.

3. Use a cotton swab soaked some alcohol soak the Fog gate softly often to prevent the Fog Gate from blocking.

4. Remember for each time add the essential oils do not add too much so that the fog gate will not be blocked.

I just unpacked - it looked good to go so I lobbed it into a cup of water and plugged in the USB - instant plum of 'smoke'.  I've tried taking pics but it doesn't show up well in the photos.

It's got a small port of the bottom where the water goes in that I imagine is easy to block so a bit of TLC might be needed occasionally.

It's great that it's only 5v - like you say, all the others seem to be 24v and loads of power.    I'm chuffed!

A little bit of creative work on the hull and you would not even need a water reservoir, or pump, if you so desired.

Yes - I was thinking of just fitting a pair of bulkheads and drill a hole in the hull.

It probably needs the right kind of pond water, fresh and clean.  I'm not sure it would survive long running on my lakes collection of sand, salt and silt.

I can put a little filter in the hole - I don't think the water consumption is massive so I won't drain the lake.   :}
