Testing a servo before using
« on: January 27, 2020, 12:50:04 pm »

Is there a  way to test if a servos is working before you have anything wired in your boat?

I have a Futuba S3003 that I have had for a while, never used it but  bought a few years ago

I am not on to my wiring yet but need to fit the servo, or allow for it to fit in to my build, but I don't want to do that then find out it doesn't work?

Any ideas?

Hi Dave, I recommend you buy a servo tester, they are cheap and allow you to test and setup a servo without a receiver, just plug in the servo and a battery and you can check the throws and centre.

Hope this helps.

I just plug mine into the receiver and switch on. This also helps me check which way the arm is moving so I can install the servo so the rudder goes the correct way. I know there is a servo reverse, but getting into the habit of installing things properly pays dividends later.
I've just re read your post, is the installation one where getting at the servo after the model is finished is difficult or impossible?  Many modellers will testify that the only things to go wrong are the things that are difficult to get at. Sods law. If you can, design the installation to be easy to service.

thankyou will have a look for a tester

it will be fine for access afterwards but the hole cut out for mounting it would be wrong if I had to change it and also the height is in line with the rudder arm so that may be wrong if I had to change it
