Brushless ESC's wanted.
« on: June 18, 2020, 08:01:29 pm »

Evening all.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to find a couple of brushless ESC's at civilised prices.

I thought I was OK as I had a couple of brushless ESC's in the 'spares' box. Both brand brand new but unfortunately they are non-reversing. No Idea why I got those.

I need to run a 1000kv motor hopefully from a 3s LiPo.

Perfect. They come with mini Tamiya battery connector. You can change it or buy an adapter

I think you will struggle to find anything smaller at 30 amps with reverse

Nice and simple then  {-)  how big is the adapter  %%  and a separate Bec even more space.
From an unfamiliar point of view I think photos and a how to would be needed and interesting to know

Will these fit? Easy set up for forwards only or forwards and reverse. Just down to where you position the throttle stick after setting the high point. Water cooled also, but, they don't have the input power plug or gold connector sockets supplied. You need to supply these.

I reckon this could work, thanks.

That's interesting as it's about the same volumetric size but needs water pipes too

Yes, agreed, but it's all down to where the cables come out. To fit where it needs to fit it really needs the cables to come out of both ends not sticking out sideways. The water cooling is an issue though as the hull is double bottomed so difficult to put a scoop in at this late stage.

I can highly recommend these: https://www.componentshop.co.uk/30a-waterproof-brushless-motor-speed-controller-esc.html

I found that water cooling is not required when running a 1100 kv motor on 3S.

I can agre with that 100%. I've bought five of these over time for use with various 28mm outrunners up to 1000kv on 3S packs. Water-cooling of either the motors or the ESC has never been an issue.

They bend flat very easy and are 16mm tall

These have more stock as they are becoming scarce in UK

I've taken a chance and ordered a Quicrun from Make it Build it. Fingers crossed it will fit in OK.

Just a thought but if you have a parallel running servo with a microswitch capable of handling the current.  If when going forward it moves but does nothing and when you want reverse it changes the microswitch over and reverses any 2 of the 3 wires to the brushless motor then you can make use of them rather than bin them.

Oh I wasn't going to bin them, I am far too mean to do that.

I have got a couple of R/C switches going spare which I could use to trigger a DP changeover relay. I've probably got a low voltage relay if I dig deep in the garage.

If space is at a premium a microswitch plus servo will not work.  The "micro" in microswitch indicates switching time rather than size - for their current carrying ability, they tend to be quite large.  Switching ability might not be a problem, it should only change state when passing through neutral, when the motor and ESC are hopefully at rest.
