A point that Mike made early on was that small indentations or holes will not be filled in by the varnish so called self levelling

Self thicknessing perhaps is more accurate. As new layers are added any defects get bigger

Anyway I did some filling in along with the latest round of sanding. The scotchbrite pads are good at matting but NOT flatting!

Ready for 1st coat of Marine no.1

I thought I would try it. I find it more shiny but it dries so quick that not all brush marks disappear. Also seems to attract more dust particles

No work today (mother in-laws birthday bash)

Picking up on a suggestion by Derek in Mike's build I am going to start varnishing in the bathroom. I intend to take off everything that is stored on my island bench and de dust it thoroughly then it is just a short trip across the stair landing to a fully tiled room

Also I am going to start varnishing the whole assembly in one go. My boat is quite stable siting on three point contacts of prop shafts and about 1" of keel at the lowest point. So the intention is to do the bottom and turn her over for the rest. The small contact of wet varnish at that spot is of no consequence.

Fortunately we have two toilets so the wife is ok with my plan.

It is only a 3hr window anyway.

Looking awesome..! Are you leaving the slipway assembly in place when varnishing or coating it separately..?

If you get bored going to the lake you could always use that hull as a shaving mirror...

I'm thinking maybe 3 more coats but we'll see.

sanding back seems to get easier as more coats are on. I'm on holidays soon so might just get one more coat in beforehand. Off to Scotland again.

The marine no.1 is ok for small parts but no chance of doing a full coat over in sufficient time. As Mike said Classic is the one

I imagine this will be common to all kits that the seats are badly glued together. I pulled them apart and reassembled tonight then washed them with a scrubby ready for paint.
I used ZapaGap CA and wiped off excess with kitchen towel before it set.

Meanwhile here's one seat base wrapped. Advisable to have the joint on the outboard face.

I'm thinking that the cardboard parts are provided only as templates? anyway I don't want water soluble material here

Late last night I decided it would be a good idea to screw the seats to the bases rather than glue.
So that was done this morning and I'm making the seat bases locate with magnets to the concealed plinths I've made and fitted.

The two screws that secure the floor are circled so in future I don't take out screws I don't need to.
