Lack of Power

Hi Everyone,
I built a Speedline 1:16th severn several years ago. It has sat on the stairs for a number of years until last week when i decided the kids are old enough to take the helm.
I had a couple of test runs before fully Finished with all the railings/fittings and i got a very good scale speed and water flow out the stern via water scoops.
Fast Forward 8 or so years and the scale speed and the water flow no where near the same.
The batteries were left untouched for 8 years as well.
I have charged and recycled maybe 4 this last week without any improvement in performance.
By my reckoning even with the extra weight of the finishing touches since the last time i had it water bourne the flow through and out the water scoops should be the same even if the speed reduced.
So i am thinking the batteries must not be providing the correct voltage?
They are both 12v 4600mah and the props 35mm 3 blade.
When fully charged the meter reads 12.4v on one and around 14.2v on the other.
Any ideas if new batteries are needed?

the 12.4 is still fairly flat after charging, so will need replacing, the 14.2 sounds ok, but may be discharging faster than it should.

Try checking the voltage when the batteries are under load (car brake light bulb, spare motor etc - anything that'll draw a reasonable current). A dud cell can show the expected voltage without a load but it plummets when it's got to do a bit of work.

Thanks for the help guys!
Thats exactly what i thought, batteries are not giving the required power.
Lacking the whine of full power.
I will get on to the component shop and order up a pair of new ones.
Thanks again

After that amount of time I suggest cleaning all the grease / oil from the prop tube and replacing with new. I didn't and my Cervia sank in the middle of the lake.
