Another natural birdbox

Ok well I say 'another' because this is the second one I have made. I started it in the morning around 10.00ish and was finished in the afternoon by around 16.00.

This is the process

Drill holes and test insert the bolts. The bolts along with wingnuts will be used to hold on the bottom removable base to the access to the inside to clean it out if it's used.

Remove the bolts and saw off the bottom 25mm

Mark out the area to cut out

Start to drill out around the edge, this is the point where I wish I had a big lathe to turn it out

  -

Drill a bigger hole to help the chopping out with the chisel

Start the cut out process

The end of stage 1 chopping out

The end of stage 2 chopping out

After a little tidy up install camera

Connect the camera cable and fix it to the shed

  -

A potential tenant when they start nesting

When we took down our multi bird box last year to replace the rotting roof we were very surprised when we opened it up. We had never seen any birds using the boxes but obviously not! We nicknamed the boxes ‘Hotel Sparrofornia’! We like The Eagles! :}
If you look closely that there are multiple layers in each section indicating that for the ten years it was on the wall it was always in use. It’s safely been repaired and refitted to the wall for this years broods.

Hotel Sparrowfornia! We are an Eagles family as well. We have seen them twice, once at Twickers in 2005 and again at the O2 in 2014. They are a great live band.

The natural bird box is a good idea! I have a lathe, though it needs setting up etc but turning out some would be a good way to get back into it.

A bigger entry hole and it would make a nice Possum home.  %)
