Target Shooting with Airguns.
« on: June 26, 2021, 12:31:28 pm »

Rossendale Model Target Club shoots every Tuesday and Thursday evening in a cellar under the church hall in Rawtenstall.

We shoot at the international standard 10 metres distance and have auto changers to return the targets after they have been shot.

Precision target shooting with target air pistols and match air rifles is a sport that is suitable for all ages, but our club is for those of us that are not as young as we used to be and enjoy the demands that are needed to help keep the brain sharp and focused.

This is a small club that has a vacancy for one (possibly two) new members who would be happy to join and take part in an absorbing hobby - on two evenings a week!

If anyone lives close enough to be able to attend the club twice a week and thinks that they would enjoy being part of a small friendly club please contact me via PM or email.

Is there a minimum age to shoot?  To far from you to join you, but if there is a minimum age, my grandson might be interested in joining something local to me.Thanks

Each club has its own rules regarding age and their own coaching qualifications to teach children, so check with your local club to see if they can help.

As a matter of interest - I started my first target airgun club when I lived in Devon in 1971 -  it was the Exmouth Air Pistol and Rifle Club.

I had a go once, with a professional, high powered airsoft snipers rifle,   I was shocked how accurate it was over 50 yards!   :o

Target shooting with an airgun is a good sport.

Airguns can be more accurate than any cartridge firing gun because the power delivery is more repeatable - with a firearm every bullet is different so each shot depends on the ammunitions loading charge being made the same as the next.

When I used to shoot full bore pistol (many years ago when it was legal to do so) I always made my own ammunition as the factory loads were not good enough for accurate target shooting.

Target shooting with an airgun is set at 10 metres internationally for all competitions including the Olympic Games and the World Championships etc.

Field target shooting is a different sport and uses variable target types and distances.

PCP powered target weapons of all types are very accurate - the bulls eye on an ISU 10 meter air rifle target is tiny at less than 1mm - precision shooting!
