Hi to all Mayhemers.
« on: September 28, 2021, 10:58:02 am »

Hi All,

New member here and new to model boating.

I was down my local park for a walk and the Black park model club were on the lake. It looked great so I joined and I have just bought my first model boats.
One is a sailing vessel 25 inch in length and the other is a Krick model with a steam engine which I am fascinated by.

I am looking forward to asking questions. :-))

All the best,
Paul.

Thank you for the welcome. :-))

SteamboatPhil, do you know the make of my steam engine? The boat is by a manufacturer called Krick. Not sure who makes the engine.

Edit:  I have found the info on the engine from a thread here at MBH in 2009. It is a Krick model 2, they used Wilesco parts.

Apparently the engine was sold by Krick to go with their Victoria model using bits from Wilesco. These could be informative? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNGhERVEvfs and https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?2991062-Victoria
Good Luck! :-))

Thanks for the links Tony.
I found out it was called a Krick Model 2 and like you say, using parts from Wilesco. This is all great info, my boat was advertised as the Patricia, although it did not come with a canopy. I suppose over the years things get broke and modellers put their own stamp on the models.

All the best,
Paul.

So I bought this beautiful boat last Friday and took it apart on Saturday. I made a couple of vids. If you good people see anything wrong please point it out. :-))
I am wondering if the last owner might be a member here? If you recognise it please let me know :-))

Yes, welcome Paul.....

Certainly a very tidy and attractive [ready made] steam vessel.......from the steam plant as installed, I suspect the build is quite a few years old

All of the points you mention are certainly valid, we don't see a pressure gauge  :o , knowing that the boiler relief valve functions correctly would be a step in the right direction..........you may wish to consider joining a Model Boating Club that has a steam contingent

In UK, there are Rules and Regulations regarding pressure vessels [steam boilers] when used where members of the General Public gather, so fellow Club Members will be a wealth of information & help.........

Happy steaming O0

Hi Derek,

Thank you for the welcome and the valid points.

I joined the local club before I bought the boat. Had a long chat with one of the members who is a steam owner, so all is good.
Hope to get down the club tomorrow or Sunday if weather permits.  :-))

Regards,
Paul.

I have had a couple of trips to Black park and met up with a few of the other members. This is a wonderful place and a great bunch of members.

The Tug (Valerie Susan) and boat with blue sails I got of ebay. They needed a little work to make them float. :-))

Thirty years ago I lived in West London and sailed at Black Park. I went there two years ago and was surprised by the number of people who remembered me. It's a great place for model boats.

Hi Dave,
It certainly is a great place for boats.

I bet you noticed the difference in parking charges compared to 30 yrs ago. Fortunately the council offer a yearly ticket which helps a lot.

Yes, thirty years ago it was free! I still like to go there now and then, despite the queues for the few car park ticket machines and the people who never have the right change (that usually includes me!)

When I was there a couple of years ago I met one or two people I sailed with back in the 80s, we had a chat and I reminded them that I used to bring my little duaghters with me - then shocked them by introducing the lovely tall slim blonde I was with - one of the little girls thirty years on! I think that really brought home the passing of time to all of us.

I bought a little Graupner Micro Magic from a club member and this thing is great. Had to pop down to black park today as the weather was great.
