would you install this ?
« on: July 22, 2022, 04:28:35 pm »

Just taking a butchers at the next project on the slip,  a lifeboat kit. . What immediately caught my attention was the prop shafts . One not too bad but would have preferred a smoother spin between the fingers . However the other quite obvious that the thread die has been run "xxxxx" onto the shaft . When spun there is about 1mm wobble at the tail end . Otherwise the kit looks good . Am I being too picky ?

That's almost impressive!  I can be cack-handed when I'm not thinking, but struggling to think how I could even run a die up a rod (even a small-one) so far off-centre without breaking the die, or the shaft in the first place.  I'm sure a reputable UK supplier would not do that, but they might put out-sourced parts in a box without checking which says a bit also.  I'm finding that very often -very much with prop-shafts for the last few years now.

...Whats the brass(?) extension covering the shaft outside of the shaft tube with the square-cut "bush" on the end though -that's a bit of an interesting arrangement I've not come across before?  Not many suppliers of lifeboat kits these days so narrows things down.

............no, not in any way! But very probably very easily rectified by asking for a replacement, there is no denying that's not right.

Thanks guys , that seems pretty unanimous .    Rich,   the brass bush goes into the A frame shaft tail support but a lot of the construction I have not got my head around yet . Never was great at absorbing printed instructions on boats or IKEA furniture.
