Sonar on PCS WW2 VESSELS
« on: September 08, 2022, 04:39:16 am »

Hi crew I noticed on the Patrol Craft Sweeper WW 2 there is a sub sonar device under the hull my question was it a drop down Thur the hull or was it a swing down type aft facing swing downs and retracts back up into place interested in how it worked tassie48

You  might get something from this http://archive.hnsa.org/doc/sonar/index.htm for the fixed keel or drop down type but the system kept on changing anyway. Otherwise it's a trawl through  http://www.navsource.org/archives/11/19idx.htm for the photos of the original YMS/BYMS kit such as the pic below for BMS2041 (Look up wildfire3)  :-))

While these plans are for a PCE, they are very close to a PCS. They show a drop down sonar. I hope this helps.

Tony hi still looking do like the PCS 1386 extra guns and Depth Charge throwers normally I pick a vessel with a good history this time just going for a normal everyday boat like 1386,  i am waiting on both sets of plans to arrive , I enjoy doing the research side of things looking up the ships history crew etc , going 12 channel operation 1/24 scale good size model 1728x312x110 mm , I have started the build book listing all the different items have 88 pages so far from flags to paint codes do like this research side of things .tassie48

Hi Gregg, the one on it's way has 2 extra d/c throwers but loses the main deck 20mms to create space.
