Where to purchase a Metcalf Twin Screw Liverpool
« on: November 11, 2022, 12:48:36 am »

Off and on for the last year I have tried to locate Dave Metcalf's recent kit for a twin screw Liverpool. Emails to Dave Metcalf have not been replied to. I would like to buy the kit but cannot locate one or receive a response from Mr. Metcalf. This is not a complaint - as I'm sure there is a good reason that my emails were not responded to. BUT - I still want to locate one of these kits. If anyone can help me locate a kit, I would be most appreciative. Can anyone provide some links or contact info to help me locate a kit? Thank you!

Tim........for whatever reason of reported no response from Mr Metcalf, a simple Google check provides a wealth of contact model builders associated with a Liverpool Class Lifeboat

Have you contacted any of these people?

One of these builders [Neil Howard-Pritchard] has built a multitude of scale Lifeboats

Hi Derek -
I'm very aware of Neil Howard-Pritchard's beautiful models (I think he is a member of this forum) but I have not contacted any individual builders. I have a Sarik hull that I was going to scratch  build up - but I'd really like to locate a Metcalf kit. I have the impression that the only source for the kit is a direct purchase from him. That's one thing I was curious about - i.e. whether or not there is a distributer he works with. Also, a recent issue of Model Boats indicated that Dave would be taking a break from making the kits. Thanks for responding!

Yes , I recall a note from David on MB that he was taking a few months off , just can't remember all the details now. I  notice he is not currently advertising in the mag. I bought a kit 6 months ago and it is standing in the corner of my study, I have vowed I will not start it until I fully finish the Chimaera model which I am a bit bogged down on at the mo. Might be worth checking that you have the correct e-mail address for David @    [email protected]

Hi Baldrick -
Your post made me chuckle. I'm a very slow builder and like you have vowed that I will complete my current model first. Then curiosity takes over and I peak in a box or look at a set of plans lol. I always wanted to complete a "trio" of lifeboats representing distinct periods: a Waveney, Tamar, and Liverpool. The Liverpool had proved elusive. I have tried two different emails that appeared on-line including the one you mentioned. I will try that one again today. You know how it can go with emails though - sometimes they just disappear down a rabbit hole. RNLI lifeboats aren't a big thing in the US (but I'm kind of hooked on everything RNLI) - so I was thinking somebody in the UK. closer to other RNLI modelers, might be able to offer some clues to locating a kit. The long term goal is to model the B.H.M.H which was stationed in Ireland. I've been fortunate enough to obtain plans and a great number of photos for it. By locating a kit I'm hoping to avoid a much slower scratch build. Thanks Baldrick!

Baldrick -
The email you provided worked this time - thank you! I heard from Dave Metcalf and he has added my name to a list of people who want the Liverpool kit. He will produce some kits during the coming year. Excellent news. Thanks again  :-)) .
