My most essential tool is a long roll of nylon string. My local pond is small enough to walk around fairly easily. I tie one end of the string to my tool box and unroll the string as I walk around the perimeteter. It is then just a case of snagging the string on a stricken boat and then pull it back to the side of the pond to enable a recovery.

It's interesting and very effective, simple tool and method to recover the stricken boat really !!!

In my case, the tool for the recovery is 2.4m rubber-made boat.....and sometimes difficult to recover the model boat
when nearing her to catch due to some provoking waves that disturb my action. The model boat often shows a kind of
escape from me with the waves when approaching nearer and nearer. ..

Nobody has mentioned having a towel yet. I saw a guy walking back to his club stand with his boat dripping all down his front because he forgot his towel.
Who would have thought model boating was like intra-galactic hitch-hiking!

Very important to know where your towel is!
I don't take one to the pond, but do have half a dozen or so old towels in the back of the car to help stop the boat moving about. Oddly, I had never considered using them as towels, but now I probably will.

I’ve done one better with the towels, my mates have a WhatsApp group called Zip Tie Racing, which I’ve turned in to a bit of a brand - have done branded Hoodies, hats, stickers, T shirts, customised cable ties and most recently - branded Zip Tie towels. Perfect for wiping oily hands (and oily boats) lakeside.

Have sorted out the new toolbox with the Shadowfoam, took a little time to lay it all out how I wanted but I’m satisfied with the results. The top three drawers of this stack is what I’ll be taking to the lake from now on, have cut down considerably from what I used to take in the green roll cav at the bottom. Am now looking into making a caddy for the miscellaneous cans and bottles I take with me too
