Club 500
« on: January 25, 2023, 03:59:28 pm »

Hi chaps.  Is there anywhere that gives good instructions and information on building the club 500 speed boat. Is there a better way of joining the two hull sections together then edge to edge. Thanks

A quick google provides lots of responses for instructions. On my model the superstructure fitted over the hull not edge to edge. The tip I was given was to use batroom sealant to join the two. This gives a firm connection but allows a little flexibility for the inevitable collision when racing.

Thanks. I have only found part builds but nothing that goes into much detail.

As mentioned above the top should go over the bottom section by about 10mm

I glued mine in a few places, just to hold it as I worked on it, and when dry, filled the gap with clear sealant all the way around.

Also to cut it out I found that using a Dart to score it out worked better than a blade..

When I was racing, it was considered that the best way to stick the deck to the Club 500 hull was to use the waterproof version of No More Nails.

Thanks chaps. So far I have the motor etc in place and have trimmed the hull sections. The top section 15mm at the rear 3mm at the bow. However I am finding putting the two sections together is like trying to hold a greasy pig. No matter what I do one side will pop out, or the bow or the rear. I just can’t get the two sections to fit. Is this normal ? What have you done to get these sections to mate up. Also should I use an hard glue with a silicone sealer on top. Or just use no nails. Thanks

I’ve just finished building my 2nd club 500. I found that ensuring that the hull was trimmed off as described in the manual, allowed the top to fit onto it…if it was Insufficiently trimmed, the top part just wouldn’t go on.
I used a palm plane to trim down the hull, with masking tape that had a line drawn on it where to trim down to.
Do a little at a time until you can achieve a snug fit
