FINALLY got my computer back from the repairers, working again after numerous mistakes made by myself in the past 9 days. But must say I was nearly crawling up the walls without it to waste my time on with this crap weather outside.

However it did give me time to clean up and make space  for the building of the final Clyde that I am ever going to build.

Cleared space for 3 of my own lifeboats built ans or bought and ready for sailing or sale, lol, and also for the Clyde.

Tidiest it has been in a long while

And so now, back to business.

I am going to start on the smaller part of the Clyde!, AS it will be easier to store that part once it has been finished.

But can anyone tell me what the none deliberate mistake is looking at the temporary "fitting" of the main parts of the cabin are., and then sujest to me the best way to continue.

Thank you!

WELL, NO ONE GOT IT.The main  cabin has been painted in the wrong colour orange.
The trunking on the front of the engine casing in front of the main cabin have been painted in the 99% choice of lifeboat modellers colors, the Volkswagan brilliant orange, for their modern lifeboats.
What the cabin has been painted in, i could not imagine, but there are so many scrapes and bumps scratches and bangs on it and the two other grp pieces that have been painted the same colour.,

It will all have to come off and start again with a good sanding and filling.

The difference in colour can now be seen between the colour on the cabin, and the trunking, so this morning I sprayed the two smaller units to go with the cabin, with a couple of coatings of the Halfords spray can sealer to see if it would react with the paint already on the cabin............

Not a jot of pealing or other reaction, so I can go ahead and sand it down with various grade of abrasive paper to give me a grounding for primer and top coats of the correct colour. so sanding will begin this afternoon.

Last night I started removing the old red paint using 40 and 100 grade abrasive paper from the upper conning position and the main companion way as shown in last photo posted yesterday!

However, just those two pieces took ages, approximately 3 hours to clear as much as shown.

So this morning I decided that I would use sanding discs on a palm sander, and within  3 minutes the top of the main cabin that the upper conning position is I placed on was sanded with 240 grade.

As this was so quick I decided to do it all using the sander, wearing a dust coat and face masks, but in the meantime to cover up the model i am trying to sell with old dust covers.

Tomorrow I will take the paint off the rest of the cabin pieces with the 240 grit and then finish the 3 pieces with 400, then 800 grade paper.

It took me a couple of hours this morning to get off the main layer of red paint from the main superstructure of the Clyde using 60 and then 80 grade garnet paper fitted on to a palm held mouse., plus what was left on the two extra mouldings, which have had a couple or more hours spent sanding them down by hand the other night

My arms and back now ache from bending, shoving and pulling, and the mouldings will need some tarting up after a base coat of primer have been given.

But before that, they will need more sanding with finer grit abrasive paper, most probably 250,. 400 and then an 800 grade.

But the good thing is, ITS GETTING THERE!!!

I gave the main superstructure, and the two smaller grp parts a good sanding with 240 grit paper which gave a good smooth finish to the grp, and then wiped the dust off with some tack wipe.

It is now ready for painting, but not before I need have to make an extension to the roof of the main cabin, as it is on there that the upper conning position is seated.

And then, before any paint is put on to the cabin, the rear of the top of the cabin had to be extended and the side supports made, all parts being made from plasticard,

I have several photos of the actual boat 72-002 RNLB GRACE PATERSON RITCHIE to look at as well as builders drawings of the boat at 1/2" to the foot, so anything I get stuck on is pretty straight forward, and today I have cut out the parts for the rear extension wingss to the main cabin, which have been cut out and cut to shape from 2mm plasticard sheet.

I have first glued on to the aft cabin the supporting 2 x 2mm strips if card to add support and strength to the cabin side extensions using builders strength cyano and will leave a couple or so hours to harden and totally cure, before adding the extensions using plastic glue

At the moment all joints and parts are left in their ruff states. once all done, I will fill all with filler before sanding off ready for painting all.

The aft additions to the superstructure have now been added with plasticard 2,0mm thick.

It is now being left to set and cure overnight before any further work is done, by filling all the little miss and hit joints are sanded and filled

The additions have glued well and strongly and so I've sanded them with 80 grit to take and hold the filler in place, ready for sanding later today for a nice smooth finish.

I shall leave a couple of hours for it to cure before sanding it all to a smooth finish.

The filler I have used is called DOLFIN GLAZE  and is a quick action with about 7 minutes max to mix and get it to where it is going before it starts going off. But it sands very nice and smooth to the finish.
