Barry Pilot Boat - Chimaera
« on: January 30, 2025, 10:52:25 am »

Just taken procession of an old model of a Barry Pilot vessel - Chimaera - I believe they were made/distributed by a company called Marvon Models in the 70'/80's

I know this is a long shot but does anyone know of any companies that make parts for this model, I am specifically after a lifeboat that used to hang from the davits of this model to put it back into first class condition, or perhaps someone has a spare one from a model that they either sold or scrapped.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in anvance

Chimaera was a kit from the late John Hemmens, I am in the process of finalising my build of same after a long rest.  John took the kit from Marvon Models when that outfit folded. Originally Chimaera was a steam yacht and carried single life/service boat in its davits. However when re serviced as a Pilot service vessel (more a floating hotel / stake boat for pilots awaiting on station for customers) she carried four boats in her davits , two per side as transfer boats of the Pilot to the incoming ship. I assume these transfer boats were about 12 ft  {5" to scale) and rowed 4 oars . The boats would have been a standard type of the time.
You can find a photograph of Chimaera in her origins yacht form on the web . I have the John Hemmens plans of the boat if you require any specific information, together with the build manual.

PS> my build log is in the depths of the bilges here somewhere
PPS>  the model was designed as a steam vessel , is yours ?
