Do you know Malcolm BEAK ?
« on: April 11, 2025, 10:59:57 am »

Bonjour,
I had the opportunity to acquire a gas regulator/attenuator combination built based on one of his designs, and I had never heard of this gentleman before this experience.

Could you tell me more about him?
A test of his product : https://youtu.be/OyelYI4li4c

Malcom is member of the Saint Albans Model Engineer Society and as been for many (many) years. He is a fine model engineer and has designed and built many fine steam engines. I have known him for many (many) years and have had the pleasure of swapping many an idea on engines and boilers with him.

Link to some of Malcolm Beak's articles:

The article describing the design of his regulator/attenuator can be found there.

Raphael:
Your video link states that repairs/modifications of your regulator/attenuator were needed.

What was needed to get your unit operational??

Bonjour Martin,

When I got it, some parts were missing, the rubber seals were cooked and the Schrader car valves were stuck : https://youtu.be/GHh4i-dugiQ

Before identifying it as a Malcolm BEAK, the friend who rebuilt it for me had the same one as example.

And I was told that Ludger KIEFLER and then Dieter LUDGER (German manufacturers) were inspired by it to make their own, which I also have and which turns out to be of poor quality over time due to a possible lack of understanding of the phenomenon of electrolysis between different metals (here brass and aluminum)  :((  :
