Another restoration model from the collection Deans Marine
« on: April 28, 2025, 05:50:40 pm »

HiI have had this model in my collection since they first came out in the 60s, great fun but now needs a bit of TLC, So a good clean up and some modes,  remove shaft and polish and ream bearings, change big heavy wire wound speed controller for a ESC and a 7.4 v lipo battery,  will need to change prop for a smaller on as these boats can become very nasty if you over power them, they have a foil speed and best to keep to it, or you are airborne. First  run on the lake, more to follow as changes get made. I would like to remove the motor and foam  mount it to quieten it down but its a keyhole job, and easy to damage very old plastic. Maybe when I feel a bit braver Enjoy Ron  see her here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4T2i6vX2gLg&t=23s

Hi mine had rusted up and was to much friction so I changed it to a Huco coupling , smoother and quieter, also re laid out the inside to get everything lower in the hull, just to trial run the props now get the balance and drive height spot on,   Hos about foil displays at Mayhem in MayRegards Ron

Hi Ron,
I have sufficiently appreciated your video in which your hydro-foil ran very well and stably for a comparatively long time.
It's so great run for this type of model boat.!! :-)) :-))

This kind of hydro-foil models were also released here in Japan in the nearly same periods from Sankyoseimitsu mfg co,of Japan.
The product is still being found in Japanese auction site at 100,000JPY(over USD700).

By the way, how is the motor cooled or not???  If it's water cooled, how do you take the water into the hull??? :embarrassed: {:-{

Nice to know, may even do some repairs not and touch up the paint now.  Regards  Ron

Hi Ron,
A great thanks for your useful information on your hydrofoil.
And it's incredibly amazing for me to know that your boat could be able to run 40minutes in one battery with no motor cooling
in addition to that high speed.... :o :o    Stunning !! :-)) :D :D

A few years ago, I just studied to build a hydrofoil, but I did not have a good idea to cool the motor by water which I thought
had to be suck up into the floating hull over some inches high from the water level without the water pump... {:-{ {-) :D

I have been enjoying screw propeller type high speed boats and also a water jet type high speed boat so far successfully.
Therefore, the next will go naturally to hydrofoil..??.but underwater-wing?seems too difficult to make and set properly to the hull by my own design to get it to float adequately on the water........... O0 :embarrassed:

Pic1;my screw prop boat        suitable for a lake for its speed
Pic2;my water jet boat          suitable for a lake for its speed
Pic 3 is what I used to see at Hiroshima prefecture of Japan when I was toooo young.!    Very fast,!! O0 :-))

Hi Kiyo To upgrade the model there was a very detailed article in Model boats magazine in the 70s I believe, on improving the kit by airfoiling the shape of the lifting foils from flat plate  wings  that makes a huge difference to the model, and with much lighter batteries and ESC it improves performance / running time and smoothness but with the proviso that if you add to much power it will porpoise and you will be in trouble I have looked but my collection of of magazines has long gone so I have no record of the year or date, but maybe someone out there  has a copy Regards Ron

Thank you, Ron, for your comment.
But I am a bit busy with other matters currently and unable to use the time to build such a hi-tech hydrofoil model.
Moreover," Nothing great is easy "!! O0 :D {-)
