An update
Having now virtually finished the planking
With 4 planks to go it was apparent that the planks were not going to form the correct shear line at completion
This is my first venture into clinker construction and I have learnt a lot from it
Firstly it is difficult and very time consuming to produce the individual planks and secondly do not rely on the moulds alone to provide the correct plank spacing !
Before commencing the build I did research construction but did not 'strike' a shear line through the moulds before then dividing each mould by 12 equal spaces - this was a mistake - I believed and relied on the moulds being the correct depth as per those on the drawings and divided them each by 12
With 4 planks to go I was able to address this and form a correct Shear line, however, I now do not have 'equal' plank spacing (particularly at mould 2) - this is very disappointing as I have invested many many hours in this construction and I wish I had struck the shear line from the outset and not relied on the moulds alone for spacing
This may go unnoticed by many - but unfortunately not me
there are still many hours left to complete the build !As I say I have learnt a lot, would I build another clinker ? jury is out on that one
Hopefully this may help someone setting out to build clinker - research does not trump experience as I have found out !
