Whilst at the Blackpool show this weekend I was told in Saturday morning by Rowan Fothergil that there was a Tyne lifeboat for sale on the bring and buy stall for 100 quid.
And so I moved quickly. It was rough as a bears bum, and so decided to leave it and if I could get it for less later I would try.
Later that afternoon Rowans dad came through and told me it was down to 50 quid, and so asked Ian if he would go and get it for me as I was tailing to a gent about his lifeboat problems.
And it arrived within minutes. At 50 quid I was quite happy with the model, but a certain modeller amongst us all took the rip out if me for paying so much. And I know why now!!!!
Who ever built this wasn't a modeller, he'she was either a plastered or a home insulation worker, as the cabion has been in the hands of a butcher.
It is, the way it was constructed absolutely aufull and amaturist the way it was put together. However now knowing this I m able to rip all the mastic and home usage filler out and start again.
For the past hour I have been picking all this rubberised filler that had glued the 5mm thick windows out of the main cabin, and all outer additions as they were all a figment of the builders imagination and i can then sand it all clean and begin again.
I just love a challenge, but, my friend S, I still think it was a bargain at 50 quid.
Pictures below are of the crud and rubish that have come out of the inside of the cabin so far.
The hand held piece of the rear of the cabin aloan is filled with plaster filler...........god knows why, but it served no purpose at all, but a new hollow correct item wll be produced from 1.5mm plasticard eventually.
But, THIS will not be my main topic, as now that the restoration of the old and battered Clyde has been finished and now gone up north with its owner to Ullerpool, i will be concentrating on his second Clyde that i have to build first.
