Even More Idiot's out and about today
« on: June 18, 2006, 06:36:09 pm »

After taking on and offline with Perkasa over the last couple of weeks i was horified when he said his boat had been damaged.

Looks you have jinxed me! A trip to the closest pond this afternoon as a furthers day gift. I have got the biggest boat on the pond and I am swanning around and there is a family down the other end of the lake with some speedboats, you know the fast pointed plastic uncontrollable things.

My worst nightmare, one hit me slap, bang in the aft 1/4. God knows how they did it. Initially I thought nothing of it but when I turned around, a great big hole in her.

You can imagine it. My wife ran for cover, the kids hid behind a tree, the water stutted to bubble and the clouds rolled in.. So I motor over to them and express my dissatisfaction. Not even an apology.

Anyway about 1/2 hour later they were packing up and had to pass me to leave.

Surprise, surprise she gives me a piece of paper with her name and address on it and said sorry, send me the bill.

How do you put a price on it. If I work it out accurately they will thing I have just landed from the moon. What does one do in this case. Send them a bill or chalk it down to experience?

When my Perkasa was damaged by the idiots they were supposed to have responsible boat builders and club members.

We now seem to have an even bigger problem with these high speed plastic things. The trouble is little Jonny wants one, daddy buys it and away they go. They do not go through the learning curve of starting slow then building up to speed as they progerss. No, its got to be flat out or nothing? as they like to show off what the have just got and what they can do. It is usually just a 5 minute wonder. Boody clever kids.

Unfortunately this is a problem that can only get bigger and will effect us all in time. Just look on E-bay and see what is on offer. It is frightening.

These people would never believe what the real cost of building a model boat is. Our models are priceless but they could never understand that.

Try punching a nice big hole in the aft 1/4 of their car next time...it might make them come to their senses!
Seriously though, this sort of thing is a bit of a problem, especially with the plethora of fast, pointy RTR's out there operated by, shall we say, the less experienced.  I don't have an answer, except that 'Little Johnny' will become bored soon enough (after a couple of weeks probably) and vanish never to trouble us again.  There will of course be more, but I don't suppose we can do much about that either!

Mind you, back around Christmas time, I was on my local lake, along with several new Christmas Presents, most of which had conked out within 3 foot of the bank.  In the spirit of helpfulness, I guided my MTB towards one to push it in to the side, gave it a gentle nudge and promptly capsized it, so I guess none of us are perfect, are we!

Hope the repairs go well.

All the Best

Mike
(Why Flag D?  It means, when flown alone, "Keep clear, manouevering with difficulty"...and I'm still flying it 6 months later!)

... to put it in a short way (we have had this earlier last week): Make a record and photographs, count the time and all the stuff which was needed. Take an hour of time with (i.e. 10 Pounds) and send them your invoice (added with a little benefit for you). If they don`t pay, mind their faces and then keep it up as experience. But sending an invoice might be worth a try anyway. If they charge it to their Insurance you have a record with photographs and a timetable as an body of evidence. If they pay it on their own- o.K.

Please guys, lets keep it light.

Due tho the restricted area of most ponds accidents will happen, as long as a sincere apology is given and an offer of some reinbursment is made , its pointless losing ones temper. I usually find that the ones that go off on one when they get hit are the ones who don't give any oppology but scuttle off when they do it to someone else.

I agree with Barapuss, accidents do happen, we all need to look out for our selves and others.
I also agree with the statement about Miss Sinbad! a uncropped pic would go down well !!

Is that Deltic's rule or Daleks rule???

After some complaints, I've removed several unnecessary comments on this thread and it is now locked.

This is a model boat Forum ladies and gentlemen, lets talk up the hobby and show all visitor what nice people we all are.  ;D
