Building A quick Graupner Beata
« on: December 08, 2007, 06:52:55 pm »

Hi all,

This is my first post here on mayhem, so hello to all, looks like a great forum you got here.

Anyway, about me. I'm a fairly seasoned model builder (cars, trucks, static planes etc), but relatively new to the world of RC boats. Having become tired with racing touring cars, i'm looking to move onto boats, and the Graupner Beata has taken my fancy! I've read a feature on modelboats.co.uk, and it seems like a great little boat to get my sea legs with.

However, i'd like to 'push the boat out' and build a particularly quick Beata. Just wanted some advice along the lines of motor, prop etc? As for buying it, A Model World seem to be the cheapest for these at £126, but i dont mind paying more from somewhere like westbourne if their customer service is better etc?

Thanks in advance for your replies. Sorry if you've read similar threads hundres of times before!

Welcome Matt
A Model World give excellent service as do Westbournes. The only problem with A Model World is you need to send them a cheque before they will send your goods as they don't accept credit cards.   O0

For really fast, Brushless seems to be the way to go these days..... how deep are your pockets?

As highly recommed as Westbourne are I wouldn't just go into a shop and ask for "a quick motor!"  I would do a lot more research and ask advice on here from experienced Fast Electric (FE) boaters before parting with any cash. No matter what the specification or promises of the motor, you won't know how good the motor really is without putting it in your own boat and try it for the first time.... only then will you actually know the quality of the advice!

Thanks for your advice. A feature build on the model boats website seem to suggest the Graupner 700BB Neopryne? My pockets are massively deep :( I have around £200 for the kit and a quick motor (i have a servo and radio gear already but my ESC wont run brushless). I think the Beata is around £130 and the aforementioned motor is about £45?

Any other recommendations for motor etc

Thanks
