Billings Bohuslan Kit
« on: December 17, 2007, 07:18:25 pm »

I have secured a part-built hull of the Billings Bohuslan steam coaster but no other parts or drawings.  I understand this kit was deleted from the Billings catalogue in the early to mid 19700s.  Could a kind soul help me locate any plans or drawings for this kit?  I would be delighted to pay all copying/postal charges.  Peter C

I built one ages ago, I think I may still have some photographs of the model somewhere, not what you want, but it may help.
Will be back to you. I sold it on Ebay a couple of years ago.
Also have a look through my plans, but I think everything went with the model.

I had one of those years ago...i still have the brass funnel for it coz i didnt use it.     i think it was a lake steamer not a coaster , if i remember correctly.

Yes, it was a lake steamer. I seem to remember that it was not intended as a working model. One of our club members built one in the early 70s and motorised it. On its first outing it promptly turned turtle! He hadn't previously tested it in the bath. The nature of the vessel means that it will be quite top heavy so beware!

Hello patbranch,

Its not much, but it is a start, I have found 14 photographs of the Bohuslan model that I made.
It was my second boat, so probably a little wanting, however I have downloaded them onto a disc, so email me your address, and I will post it on to you.

Had a taycol motor in mine , and yes it was top heavy , hence i still have the funnel. never was very stable. so got rid of it......and i think you are right in saying it was intended to be a static model.

Peter, send me a PM with your address. I have a set of Bohuslan plans. I thought of bidding for that hull myself, but since I already have a half-built hull and the rest of the kit it seemed a bit extravagant.

The problem with mine is that the parts are printed on thick mahogany veneer rather than ply, and the sheets have warped a bit. Come to think of it, £20 and you can have the whole bl**dy thing.

A wonderful example of the value of Mayhem! A 1970's kit and somebody comes up with the plans within an hour or so. What more can you ask?  O0

Thank you all for your helpful and illuminating responses.  This has been my first post - wish I'd discovered the forum earlier.  I am making contact with Jonty.  Peter C
