MILFORD STAR by Caldercraft
« on: January 30, 2008, 07:14:22 pm »

:) :)Good Evening to you all. Is anybody within the Forum building or has built the above Fishing Vessel, since I have now bought the kit but some parts in the Die-Cut section cannot be identified.
In my instruction manual is a fly sheet of important changes. It shows two parts(different shapes) No.19. It also shows three parts  all No.29 2off the thrid one entirely different shape. Lastly it shows two parts No.82 and the parts list indicates this number as a Cast White Metal companionway.
Thanks for looking. Bernard.

Comtact John Wright at JoTIKa with your query. I'm sure he will be happy to help with any problems.

Hello Ceres, I have built the Milford Star although quite awhile ago but looking at the instruction manual I still have
parts 82 should be parts 13 forecastle upstand bulwark cappings, part 19 is port superstructure side, I assume your other part 19 should
be part 20 starboard side, parts 29 the 2 indentical ones are the engine skylight ends I dont no about your third part 29 though
my model is an early one so it appears they have updated? some things. I found that the opening on my deck under the superstructure was
to large allowing the superstructure to fall straight through!
if you need any more info email me and i will try to help
regards Les

These errors would never have happened in Frank Hinchliffes day. A true boat modeller and a real gent to boot.

Not quite true I'm afraid, I did the original reviews for Model Boats of Talacre, Imara and Cumbrae and there were significant errors in all of them, less so in Cumbrae.

I visited JoTIKa a few weeks ago in connection with a forthcoming article and they were clearly very keen to get everything just right and want their customers to report any errors or other problems. Most other reputable traders will take a similar line.

If you have a problem then the best bet is certainly to take it up with them and give them the opportunity to put things right - not just for you but for anyone else who buys the kit.

I stand corrected Colin, but I found Frank so approachable that any problems were just ironed out by the excellent personal attention he gave.

Footski, I would certainly agree that Frank was a very nice guy and is a great loss to the model boating community. Kits can be quite complex and mistakes do creep in. The important thing, as you say, is that the manufacturer will readily give the aftersales service to put things right. I certainly got the impression from JoTIKa that they also subscribe to this view. They are a small firm and their reputation is very important to them which is as it should be.
