evening all, had a quick look at the listing and well there sure is some repair work to do, plank on frame repair as well!!

Now who's gonna predict the life span of all that brass!!!!!
should be interesting.

As long as it is just the top deck it shouldn't be too bad to maybe plank over it but my worry would be that what ever caused that damage could have done other things that can't be seen.

Is it just me or is 16 coats of anything a bit over the top?  2 or 3 is about my limit for any paint or varnish but does more really mean better?

could not agree more .Yes the more you put on the better the shine,BUT it does have it's dissadvantages,ie cracking.When I worked at RAF Valley as a painter we used to have top refurbish the honours boards simply because the lacquer had cracked.My advise as a painter is no more than 6
