what do you think about this
« on: March 02, 2008, 11:42:40 pm »

this is just in the planing stage at the mo but we (e port boat club) want to know if you the modeler would like to show and sail your boats at the museum again . we are thinking something like a few rooms each filled with different boats i.e one room with tugs one room with warships and so on. i don't know about you but i miss being able to see so many different models on the water like we used to have with the convention. now we are not after another convention but similar. no traders just modelers talking and sailing at a really good venue.

so what are your views could we get this off the drawing board or am i talking rubbish.
i need feedback will you stand in a room full of boats like yours and have a good old chat with other modelers of the same type of boats that you like to build then maybe go for a sail or even do a few workshops and show how you do the wonderfull thing you do.

this will be a one day event  exhibitors get in free just like the old days
i have a day in mind that we could use and it would coinside with other things going on in the museum too that people may like to see.

thanks for any feedback and for reading my ramblings

See how many club secretaries you can poll in a 35 mile driving radius to gauge probable support.  I would guess that would be a general limit for a one day event without the attraction of a bit of parts shopping, although there will always be hardy individuals who will travel much further.
BTW I do have a connection with AMW who do the EPIC show, via my clubs link with the Blackpool show, also done by AMW.

yes it will be at the museum we are possibly be going to reenact the SD14 launch but for the general public not just an invited crowd this will be very spectacular as it is at the same scale to our tugs that will be assisting. the other attraction that will be on at the same weekend is a steam rally maybe this will get people to take the time to travel

I always liked the boat Museum as a venue to host a display but always found that the Full price cost to gain entry for the general public was a bit steep..Currently £ 8.50 for an adult & £ 5.75 for a child.., ok it could be said that this might be good value as you get access to the whole museum ,I think it is still expensive, so will it be discounted ?. As I think the March Traders show at the Museum used to be.

Same problem at Beale Park. The modellers aren't usually interested in the general facilities of the Park, only the modelling stuff on the day but they still get charged top whack!

hi Steve sound like a good idea . The only problem i see is the entry fee £8.50. For me and my girlfriend to come up thats £17 a far whack + diesel £40+ start to get  bit expensive. If you could find a free venue it would be better make life a bit cheaper. . Let us know whats happing john
