Thanks Footski, I have to say I'm quite amazed myself that I have managed to cram it all into am 18" hull.  :-)

Way cool! Can't wait to see it working. Did you make both engine and boiler yourself?

Hi Kno3, yes I have mave made everything from scratch (or raw materials as I prefer to say) myself. The engine is the "cygnet" designed by Edger T Westbury, the rest being all my own design. The only thing I have bought is the pressure gauge, although I have drawings for a build your own gauge, but you have to draw the line somewhere. I even had to make some of my own nuts and bolts as I didn't have any in my stock at the time.

Great posting but perhaps it needs a new title so those who are not reading the Springer forum dont miss it? The earlier photos show the two types of boiler really well, I take it the full flash boiler is what is in Paprika? I have a single cylinder engine built to a design by A H Rayman which goes very well on a conventional boiler. I have always wanted to try it with a flash boiler as the designer intended but have been worried that the pump and water supply would take a lot of sorting. The semi-flash might be a good compromise as at least there would be some water in reserve. Any tips you can give about setting up either would be worthy of a whole new post. Cheers, Ian.

Thanks for that, if not in Paprika what have you used the full flash boiler in/with and how well did it work? I have the Edgar Westury book on Flash Steam but have not got around to studying it yet. It is on the "one day" list to try building an R?C version of a flash steam hydro. Cheers, Ian.

Here are, quick look at the Springer just before I take it to Warwick. All fittings are installed and the hull painted. Mrs Steamboat wouldn't let me test it in the bath  >>:-( (I was even prepared to let her get out as well  :-) ) which of course is the main advantage of having a springer, so had to run it on the bench, not nearly as much fun.
I've only got to build the lid now

Wonderful  :-)) Please put a high bulwark (1.5" or 2") round the cockpit/engine room and trim her stern down a bit. Cant imagine the result of red hot metal and bilge-water meeting :o.  A vintage look with tall chimily would be nice :embarrassed:  Must have a pic with Red O if it gets there, please.

Phil, with such a superb plant inside like that I would be tempted to put nothing more than a clear perspex cover over it.  You couldn't come up with anything that would make it look better!!

Congratulations - this is such a rewarding thread to follow - as I am a live steamer also...Maybe the the lid should look like a swept back volcano!! :-)) an excellent job of production and design. If it did get seas trials - I do hope that the Springer shape does not test you too much since they love to nose plow through the water...high coaming or water tight seals may be in order!!

Many thanks Mo, I'll post trails as sea trails soon (if the wife won't get out of the bath I'll have to use the local pond) The one thing I have on all my springers believe it or not, is because I build them light, the bows have always ridden up too high, and I've had to add at least 1lb of lead to the front. So with any luck this should just about stay dry (fingers crossed) Pics to follow
